Will fusing my SI Joint make my body seem stiffer?
Fusing the SI joint provides the stabilization needed to relieve pain, and since there is minimal movement in the SI joint, the procedure should not reduce your mobility.
Will I have to stay in the hospital?
Not typically. This minimally invasive procedure is most often performed on an outpatient basis with minimal trauma experienced at the surgical site, resulting in quicker recoveries.
How long will I take to recover?
All patients need to allow their body to heal, working their way to full weight-bearing health. Your physician will review your particular circumstances with you and provide post-operative instruction.
What kind of scar will I have?
Due to the procedure being minimally invasive, the typical scar length is only 2-4cm (1-2 inches) on the upper side of your thigh/hip area.
Can I shower after surgery?
Your physician will be able to instruct you as to any showering restrictions that may apply to your particular situation.
How long will I have restricted activities?
Your physician will discuss with you any specific instructions related to restricted activities, but you will need to limit any weight-bearing activities for a period of time reaching out to as much as 6 months post-operation.
